Afterburn: How an Arcade Fitness Session Works in a VR Room
How Afterburn works — an arcade fitness session in VR where you repeat one action in one room to a score.
By AeternusVita
“How Afterburn works — an arcade fitness session in VR where you repeat one action in one room to a score.”
Afterburn is an arcade fitness session you play in a VR headset. You stay in one room and repeat one action, and a score records how it goes. You stop when you want the session to end.
This post explains what Afterburn is, how a session works and who it suits. It is coming soon on aeternusvita.io. You can get notified from the product page when it is ready.
What Afterburn is
Afterburn is an arcade fitness session for a VR headset. The subtitle on the listing is "Arcade fitness in VR".
The one-line pitch from the store copy states it directly: "Repeat one arcade fitness action in a VR room, and keep the score."
The long description adds the shape of the session: "Afterburn is an arcade fitness session for a VR headset. You stay in one room and repeat one action. That repetition is the session. A score records how it goes. Stop when you want the session to end."
That line is the whole format. There is one room. There is one action. The session is the repetition of that action, and the score keeps track. The listing closes with: "Afterburn is made by aeternusvita.io. An arcade room with one repeated action, and a score kept on the device."
The feature list from the Play copy is short:
- Play arcade fitness in a VR headset
- Stay in one room for the session
- Repeat one action to a score
- Stop when you want the session to end
- Your score is saved for another go
Those five points are the core of the game.
How a session works
You put on the headset and you are in the room. You start the action and you repeat it. Each repetition adds to the score, and the score is what records the session.
The Play copy puts the order plainly: "You stay in one room and repeat one action. That repetition is the session. A score records how it goes."
There is no course that moves you from area to area and no second room you switch to once you have finished a round. You stay where you are and you keep going with the same action until you decide to stop.
Stopping is part of how it works. The listing says "Stop when you want the session to end." You do not need to reach a set level or wait for a timer you cannot change. You end the session when you are ready, and the score you have at that point is the record of how it went.
That makes the session easy to fit around other plans. You choose how long you stay, because both a short go and a longer go use the same room and the same action.
The room and the action
Everything happens in one room. You open that room, you play in it, and the next time you open it you are in the same place.
The long description says: "You choose how long you stay. The next visit is the same room and the same action." There is no new layout to learn between visits.
The arcade part is in that repetition. You do one thing and you do it again to build the score. The headset puts you inside the room, so you play the action from inside it rather than looking at it on a flat screen.
Your score and going again
The score is saved on the device. The Play copy says: "The score is saved on the device, so you can open the same room and go again."
That is how Afterburn handles progress. You do not carry the score somewhere else to see it. It stays on the device you played on, and it is there when you come back. You open the same room, you repeat the same action, and you have the earlier score to measure against.
Going again is the same steps as the first go. You choose the room you already know, you start the action, and the score starts counting.
Where you can play it
Afterburn runs on a VR headset. The Play copy says: "Afterburn runs on the headset itself. It also runs on a VR headset linked to a computer. The room and the action are the same on both, and you play them from inside the headset."
That covers the two headset setups. You can play it standalone on the headset, and you can play it with a headset linked to a computer. In both cases you play from inside the headset and the room and action are the same.
The project builds show how that is packaged. There is a signed Quest APK for Meta Quest and a signed Android XR AAB for Android XR, plus a hosted web build. Listings are prepared for Google Play, Meta Horizon, SideQuest and itch.io, with packages ready but not yet submitted. Nothing has been released or submitted to any store yet.
Who Afterburn suits
Afterburn suits people who want an arcade fitness session that is easy to start and easy to stop.
It suits you if you like repetition and a clear score. You do one action and you repeat it. The score tells you how it went, and the same setup is there next time so you can compare directly. If you prefer a single clear task over a set of modes that change the rules, this format fits.
It suits you if you want control over session length. The listing says "You choose how long you stay" and "Stop when you want the session to end." If you have ten minutes, you can do ten minutes. If you have more time, you can stay longer. You do not need to set a length before you start beyond deciding when to stop.
It suits you if you want something you can return to without relearning. The next visit is the same room and the same action, so you can pick it up again quickly. The score saved on the device gives you a simple record of the last go.
If you want an arcade-style session where the work is in repeating one thing well, rather than learning many things at once, Afterburn is aimed at you.
A note on fitness. Afterburn is an arcade fitness session, not a medical or training programme. How you feel during any active session depends on many factors, including your space, how you move and how long you stay. Take breaks when you need them, keep your play area clear, and stop when you want the session to end.
